24 week update |
|
i made this...
Before my first ultrasound, I remember
thinking, "This is really a covert ink blot test, right? No way can
you call that a nose" I recalled that thought as soon as Todd suggested
posting these on the web. On the other hand, I never imagined what a reassurance
seeing those images would give me.

| My mom came
up to visit right around the end of my first trimester, so she was in town
when these pictures were taken. It was pretty exciting to share that.
I don't think she had ever seen an ultrasound before.
It was also comforting to have both Todd and her by my side when my doctor recognized that I might have some difficulty carrying this pregnancy to term. The next day I was checking into the hospital for a procedure called a cervical cerclage. |

| I learned a new word when
I got pregnant: PERINATOLOGIST. It describes an obstetrician
who is also a high risk pregnancy specialist. My doctor scheduled
me for a consultation with one at St. Vincent's in Portland, where the
next set of pictures where taken. Basically, he confirmed what we already
knew and I went home to wait it out.
I've been on bed rest since then, which, if you know me, you know is driving me crazy. Todd is my hero these days. He's an active part of all this, not to mention all the cooking and cleaning he's had to take on! I think I'll build him a web site to thank him... |

| 24 weeks is a milestone because it's the
earliest that a premature baby can be delivered with a hope of survivability.
At our most recent ultrasound, all the measurements looked very encouraging. The next goal is to get to 32 weeks without any problems; then the suture comes out at 37 weeks. After that, I'm hoping for a natural, medication free birth day. |

| These last three images were taken at
30 weeks. Our baby has moved into the head-down position. Although
it's early and he still has room to turn around, it's good news for a vaginal
delivery.
Two weeks ago my blood sugar test was a bit elevated, which prompted another round of glucose tolerance tests. Happily, the results from the latter were normal. I still have to watch the cookie intake, but no gestational diabetes for me! |
